It's important to be cautious of a growing group of nomadic people posing as Local asphalt companies. They operate by looking like every other firm, creating professional-looking websites and sales materials that they’ll use to exploit the next city once they are done here.
These individuals often approach homeowners by knocking on your door, claiming to have extra asphalt and offering to fix your driveway at a significantly reduced cost.
However, if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is. Many victims have fallen into their trap, where the initial job cost of $500 quickly escalates to $30,000.
There have even been reports of threats of violence if victims try to cancel their checks at the bank.
To protect yourself, please keep the following in mind:
1. Insist on receiving a written quote with a guaranteed price before any work begins.
2. Verify the legitimacy of the company by requesting at least three credible references.
3. Ensure that the company's address is an actual physical location and not just a P.O. Box.
4. Verify that the phone number provided is in service and functional.
By being cautious and following these guidelines, you can avoid falling victim to these fraudulent individuals.
